One of the most important archeological sites in Kassandra is the Sanctuary of Ammon Zeus in Kallithea. The site was founded in the 8th century BC, as a sanctuary to Dionysus and the Nymphs. A stone temple was built in the 4th century BC, dedicated to Egyptian-Greek deity Ammon Zeus.
The site is remarkable in that it is situated right next to the sandy beach and shore of Kallithea. Visitors can stroll through the stone foundations, ancient altars and architectural remains of the temple complexes that overlook the sea. The open plan allows visitors to experience ancient Greek religious architecture before walking out onto the beach just beyond the archeological border.
The archeological site is located on the eastern coast of the peninsula, about 30 kilometers from Nea Skioni. Stella Meri Studios is located within approximately 30 minutes’ drive from Kallithea. Visitors can combine a visit to the beach with a historical tour of the site through designated walking paths and informational panels.
Distance from Stella Meri Studios: Approximately 30 minutes.
