The Possidi Lighthouse was erected in 1864, during the time of the Ottomans, by a French lighthouse company at the tip of Cape Possidi. It is a white cylindrical tower attached to a one-story keeper’s house, retaining its original 19th century maritime architecture. It is very close to the coast and one of the few operating historic lighthouses of Halkidiki built directly on a sandy beach.
A giant sand spit surrounds the lighthouse and reaches out into the Aegean Sea, constantly changing shape with the tides and currents of the coast. From open country the view is across the water to the mainland horizon and Mount Olympus. Because of its western exposure, the area is a popular place to watch and photograph the sunset away from built-up commercial areas.
The Possidi Lighthouse is located on the southwest coast of Kassandra, about 15 kilometers from Nea Skioni. The site is a 17 minute drive by car from Stella Meri Studios. Visitors can drive to the end of the paved road, park by the pine trees, and then walk directly along the sandy shore to the lighthouse grounds.
Distance from Stella Meri Studios: Approximately 17 minutes.
