Lake Mavrobara

Lake Mavrobara

Lake Mavrobara is a protected natural wetland inside a pine forest, in the hills of Polychrono, in the central part of Kassandra peninsula. This is a small freshwater lake, located at an elevation of about 200 m, fed by natural underground springs and rainfall. It is best known as a haven for rare species of fresh water turtles, especially Emys orbicularis and Mauremys rivulata, which live and breed in its tranquil waters.

The surrounding area is home to a network of protected forest paths and walking trails, bordered with pine trees, wild shrubs and local flora. Informational signboards explaining the local ecosystem, wooden benches and shaded picnic areas are located along the routes where visitors can watch the turtles and surrounding wildlife in a quiet natural setting. The site is family and nature friendly with easy walking paths and educational displays.

Stella Meri Studios is located about 32 minutes by car from Lake Mavrobara, located about 12 kilometers to the east of Nea Skioni. Access is via a road from Polychrono into the hills and then a short dirt track to the entrance of the lake. There is nearby parking and visitors can easily explore the lake grounds and forest trails on foot.

Distance from Stella Meri Studios: Approximately 32 minutes.
